Specularite

This piece was collected by the late Douglas Creba, a renowned mineralologist who became a Cornish Bard, and his Bardic name was Den an Carrygy - 'Man of the Rocks'.  We are fortunate to know his family and to share with you some of the duplictes of his main collection, which used to reside in the Wheal Martyn Museum.

Hematite
It is the high iron content of Hematite that is worked to make magnetic items in this stone, and this is felt in its weight and reflected in its quality of grounding oneself to feel secure in oneself and in one's thoughts. A stone of protection, Hematite's magnetic qualities help by creating a buffer around you, similar to when you hold magnets in opposition. It is used for circulation disorders, thought to support the blood cleansing function of the kidneys. It is also associated with improved absorption of iron and production of red blood cells, and flowing from that, relief from cramp, anxiety and insomnia.
